I truly believe that everything that happens has a purpose and that people come into our lives for a reason, a season, a lifetime!
In August of 2019 something quite amazing happened for so many glorious (and some unexpected) reasons. I was sent to do a story on a new type of retreat focused on recharging the mind, body, spirit....And, if I’m being completely honest, cutting out a few “things" along the way (which meant no more cookies, muffins or chips). I mean… Back to the story!
That first night I sat next to a lovely couple who were at the retreat celebrating their 29th year of marriage. Over our bio-intensive meals, we spoke about our loving families and our lives. Through our fun conversation we discovered that we shared a passion for women’s fashion. By the end of the meal it felt like the three of us were old friends reconnecting instead of having just met. It all had this sweet feeling of home. That couple was Jay and Adriana Balaban, the owners of Connected Apparel.
"My life's joy as “The Fashion Guy” has always been to help women look and FEEL beautiful."
One of the first things I shared with the Balabans is that my life's joy as “The Fashion Guy” has always been to help women look and FEEL beautiful. As a fashion and makeover expert I am adamant about featuring (and celebrating) women of all shapes, ages, and glorious sizes. I told the Balabans that it didn’t make sense to me why women of certain ages, races or sizes were never featured in some of the fashion segments I see on TV. It was frustrating for me. I knew that my job was to fill that gap. And I’m proud to say, “I have!” #LoveMyJob
As you can imagine, dressing and styling women is an extremely personal thing. I’ve been in the trenches with these women and they trust me! They feel safe with me. And with that precious trust we have open, raw, and honest conversations. We talk about what they see when they look in the mirror and how they feel in their body. Then I tell them how to approach fashion specifically tailored for them.
"It’s not the label you choose; it’s how you wear it and how it makes you FEEL!"
I then took what I learned over the past 25 years and put it into my book, "Lawrence Zarian’s 10 Commandments for a Perfect Wardrobe.” I wanted women around the world to hear my message of: “It’s not the label you choose; it’s how you wear it and how it makes you FEEL!”
I may have met Jay and Adriana for the first time back in 2019, but realized over our carb-free dinner, that I had been incorporating Connected Apparel’s beautiful dresses and jumpsuits into some of my fashion segments for years. I was already a fan of their rich-feeling fabrics and classic, chic designs.
The Balabans and I became even closer friends after the retreat ended. What an amazing family, truly. I can honestly say that I love them. We get together often and it is such an honor to be a part of the Balaban family, a family that truly believes that all women are beautiful. Over many delicious dinners (carbs included this time) I learned of the rich family history of Connected Apparel and the strong family values the Balabans have. So when Jay and I were musing one night about a Connected Apparel and Lawrence Zarian collaboration, it felt serendipitous. It felt right! I knew I was home! #FamilyValues
"We worked together to bring this carefully crafted CAxLZ separates collection to life. It’s inspired by all of the strong, beautiful, and vibrant women..."
It was time. Time to create! We worked together to bring this carefully crafted CAxLZ separates collection to life. It’s inspired by all of the strong, beautiful, and vibrant women I’ve had the pleasure of working with over the years. I took their feedback, YOUR feedback, on what was missing in your wardrobe. And we designed a collection that accommodates every age and body type, without compromising style and the latest trends. Connected Apparel understood and believed in my goal for our on-going collaboration. We would give women choices that make them FEEL ready to conquer the world and FEEL beautiful doing it every stylish step of the way.
Today life doesn't look quite like what we had expected. And we are all spending so much more time at home. With CAxLZ we want women to remember that no matter what life throws at you, you’ve got this. And that you can (and should!) still #GetYourGlamOn! Connected Apparel and I chose to create sequin separates so that every one of your moments can shine a little brighter.
"It’s time to celebrate the sparkle and magic of the beautiful woman that is YOU."
